Turning a WhatsApp group into a transparent, shared treasury
Built for Kenyan chamas and savings groups: members contribute through M-Pesa, the group sees confirmed contributions and the running total as they happen, and the treasurer withdraws with reason and balance posted back to everyone.
Early preview. Product capabilities, live bot connection, and account setup are still in development.
Kenyan chamas typically track contributions and withdrawals by hand, through a mix of WhatsApp messages, paper notebooks, and spreadsheets kept by whoever is treasurer that cycle. It is easy to lose track of who has paid, hard to prove a withdrawal was reasonable after the fact, and almost impossible for the group to see the shared balance without asking someone directly.
Tembea Pamoja keeps the group inside the WhatsApp chat it already uses, but replaces the manual bookkeeping with a system that confirms money as it moves and reports back to everyone automatically.
Confirmed contributions and running totals posted to the WhatsApp group automatically, no manual reporting by the treasurer.
A withdrawal cannot complete without a one-time code sent to the treasurer, so no single compromised login can drain the group.
Contribution and withdrawal patterns are checked for anything unusual, flagged for the treasurer to review rather than auto-blocked outright.
Every WhatsApp group the bot joins gets its own independent ledger, balance, and treasurer. Nothing is shared across groups.
Core ledger, M-Pesa STK push checkout, and WhatsApp notification flow are being built now. No live groups or real funds yet.
In early discussions with I&M Bank Kenya to move contribution collection onto their Business Connect product once the MVP is validated.
Planned expansion to an independent website and standalone app, so a chama's treasury is not limited to WhatsApp alone.
